Sola Nightsea Lighting Test - by Jeffrey Honda

This year's Digital Shootout in Roatan had some unexpected weather, but it still yielded some amazing diving! Most of us braved the rolling waves during the daytime and then had a well deserved adult beverage in the evening; but then there were the "Night Stalkers", those who set out in search for more adventure at CoCo View's amazing house reef once the lights were out. These Night Stalkers lit up the ocean bottom every night of the Digital Shootout despite how much CoCo View's bar life and live music tempted them.

This year's night diving at CoCo View was personally special for me for two reasons. I have never been able to dive a wreck at night and CoCo View's wreck, The Prince Albert, was conveniently located about 100 meters from the resort. Another reason that this local dive site was special for me was that Dr. Charles Mazel, creator of Nightsea, started his adventure with fluorescence at this location. Dr. Mazel has been a mentor to me, and so many others over the years, helping us on our personal quests to shoot fluorescence. So it was inspiring to dive in such a significant location.

The Prince Albert had some of the coolest and largest fluorescing coral growths that I had ever seen. There were the usual suspects: lizard fish, arrowhead crabs, bubble tip anemones. And then there were some subjects that I had never seen before. Every night a group of divers would get geared up with Nightsea's fluorescent filters and Light & Motion's Sola Nightsea lights to go out and discover what fluoresces. It was amazing to see how many returning divers we had and how many new divers were ready to try a new experience.

All in all, I was proud to see so many divers get out in the water at night and supply us with some of the most amazing images of the Shootout. I look forward to going back to CoCo View and experiencing all that they have to offer.
