The Backscatter Hybrid Flash has it all–pure raw power output, quality of the beam spread, and the recycle time. When shooting in Little Cayman in June in the summertime at noon, it’s pretty much some of the brightest conditions you’re ever going to see. Having a really bright strobe output can either make or break a shot in these conditions. Whether you’re powering up against sun balls or lighting large scenes, or trying to capture fast moving objects or some kind of behavior, the Hybrid Flash will allow you to get the shot. Now with the new OS-3 Snoot, you can even take it to the macro realm. But it’s not the same as either the OS-2 Snoot for the Atom or even the OS-1 Snoot for the Mini Flash. The OS-3 Snoot has a much longer working distance, allowing for fish portrait shots or shots of critters that tend to be a little bit more shy, so you can back off a bit and give it a little bit more space. With the addition of the snoot, it really turns the Hybrid Flash into a very versatile tool for underwater photography.

In addition to being one of the highest performing strobes out there, it also has 5000 lumens of wide video light to boot. I saw a number of shootout participants taking advantage of being able to do both photo and video lighting on the same dive with the Hybrid Flash.
