GEAR TESTS: GOPRO MISSION 1 PRO ACTION CAMERA UNDERWATER CAMERA REVIEW

The GoPro Mission 1 Pro features a larger 1-inch sensor that produces a significantly higher-quality image compared to previous models, and it might just be the best action camera on the market right now.
To maximize its potential underwater, I paired the Mission 1 Pro with the Backscatter FLIP red filter system and our Backscatter prototype Sharp Wide Lens Pro. Both accessories made a massive difference, significantly improving color accuracy and overall edge-to-edge image quality in the water.
When looking closely at the final footage, I was deeply impressed by the dynamic range of this GoPro compared to previous iterations. There is much more detail preserved in the shadow areas, and it handles low light beautifully with very little noise.
We will be dropping a much deeper, comprehensive review of this camera very soon, so stay tuned to backscatter.com for the full breakdown.
Finally, a new GoPro! The Mission 1 so far does not disappoint. Featuring an all-new 1-inch sensor, the Mission 1 delivers fantastic color (especially when paired with filters), exhibits great dynamic range, and offers better low-light performance than any previous HERO camera.
The Mission 1 is also highly customizable, and it’s easier than ever to switch between user-created custom modes with the push of a button, rather than relying on the awkward “secret menu” system used by older GoPro cameras. Battery life is also excellent, and I easily got two dives out of it while shooting 4K60 footage throughout each dive.
The larger screen is another welcome improvement, making it easier to see the scene you’re capturing and pay attention to minute details. Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better successor to the HERO line, and the Mission 1 has quickly become my favorite action camera to shoot underwater.
