The Sony A7S III remains my go-to camera for underwater videography in 2025—it’s my reliable workhorse and has never let me down. I first put it to the test in 2020 and have used it every year at the Digital Shootout since. Even with newer Sony bodies like the A1 and A9 III on the market, I keep coming back to the A7S III for one simple reason: it just works.

What sets this camera apart is its incredible image quality and unmatched low-light performance, thanks to its 12MP sensor. Underwater—where light is limited and conditions are often unpredictable—those larger pixels make a huge difference in retaining detail and reducing noise. It handles murky water, deep dives, and ambient-light scenes with ease.

Another major factor is reliability. Unlike some newer mirrorless cameras that can overheat when recording high frame rates, the A7S III stays cool and consistent, even when pushing 4K at 120fps. That kind of dependable performance is essential when you only get one shot at capturing the moment on a dive.

For me, the A7S III continues to hit the sweet spot between image quality, usability, and durability—making it a camera I trust dive after dive.
