GEAR TESTS: CANON R5 II UNDERWATER CAMERA REVIEW
The Canon R5 II is a hybrid camera that’s a true powerhouse, capable of both stunning stills and captivating videos. With its impressive 45MP sensor, you can create large prints or crop your images to your heart’s content. For Video you can record 8K and 4K RAW video at up to 60 frames per second and 4K 10bit H264 or H265 at up to 120 frames per second!
The EVF is nothing short of outstanding, featuring an OVF simulator that gives you a realistic view of the scene.
Autofocus and tracking are top-notch, thanks to the highly customizable Dual Pixel Intelligent AF system. It includes eye tracking and subject detection, ensuring that your subject stays in focus. And here’s a cool feature: you can even control the focus by simply looking at the subject in the EVF. It’s like having a built-in autofocus assistant! This feature is not available underwater but its nice to have topside.
The Nauticam NA-R5II housing is a joy to shoot. Most of the controls are remapped so you can access them without taking your hands off the ergonomic handles.There’s even an additional 3rd control wheel for direct access to the ISO control. Customizing your setup to suit your specific needs is easy with Nauticam’s full line of water contact optics, viewfinders and monitors.
The R5 MKII can accommodate both EF and RF lenses, making it versatile for different shooting needs. There is even an additional control wheel on the left side of the housing that connects to the SA control on the RF 100mm Macro lens, the control ring on the supported EF to RF mount adapter, and the ND filters on the drop-in filter adapter.
