ATTENDEE COMMENTS:

Marsha said: "I think this year's Shootout at Little Cayman was spectacular! And I would advise people to come and try it. It's an opportunity to learn and dive, and they'll get the best of both experiences. Try it, you'll love it!"

Sean said: "Nobody else teaches this stuff. I'm definitely coming back next year!"

Elizabeth said: "The Shootout was an opportunity to combine an amazing vacation spot with great diving and an educational experience in underwater photography. (My favorite thing about the Shootout) is the nightly critiques where you can see the other people's photography and hear what you can do to make things better, so you can compare where you are as a photographer to people that are true professionals."

Dave said: "Mary Lynn does a very good job instructing people in the art of video editing. This particular competition-instruction-dive trip is very well run. It's a great dive site; we've had a lot of fun and I'd do it again!"

Jim said: "I've learned so much this week! I've learned how to cure a flooded housing…twice! I've learned how to deal with sync cords. I've learned how to deal with everything. It's been a good learning experience."

Kiril said: "To spend a whole week just focused on photography and diving, and to be able to talk to other attendees, staff and professionals who have been doing this for a very long time is so great! You know, just forget about everything else… worries, concerns, job… you just focus on this one thing for the whole week. I just absolutely love that."

Tim said: (When asked how he had heard about the Shootout) "I was up at Aquatica last year in Montreal, Canada. I ran into Jean and told him I needed to learn how to shoot pictures underwater. He said come to the Cayman Islands, and I said works for me!"

Jane said: "My objective was to learn to do video 'cause I'm a still photographer. I managed to whip out a couple dailies and I have a finished product where I learned a few tricks along the way and I learned how to edit for producing a video, which was fun!"

Rich said: "Fun trip! Dialed in my macro! Had a good time!"

WHAT A WEEK IT'S BEEN!
The 2010 Digital Shootout from Little Cayman Beach Resort is coming to a close. The week just flew by with photo and video seminars, post production classes, and of course, world-class diving in the Bloody Bay Marine Park. Contest submissions have been entered and participants are now relaxing and reflecting on their week of learning and diving… the ultimate working vacation! Judging an imaging contest is tough work! Our pros, Berkley White, Doug Sloss, Dan Baldocchi and Mary Lynn Price arduously judged the photo and video contest entries, based on the official Digital Shootout contest rules, and at times had to arm-wrestle for their favorite!

While all of the submissions can't be winners, all of our participants ARE winners for their hard work all week long. A very big 'thank you' goes out to all of our Shootout participants and Sponsors for attending this year's event and supporting our endeavors. Also, a huge thank you goes to the Little Cayman Beach Resort for being our gracious and generous host for this year's event – we've thoroughly enjoyed your luxurious accommodations, professional and warm staff, delicious meals and out-of-this-world diving!

Thank you!

WINNER - JIM WATT AWARD

Jim Watt was more than a friend to the Shootout. He was a living example of our mission statement. Jim was one of the first professional underwater photographers to adopt digital photography and was thrilled to share all his shooting secrets with first time shooters or fellow professional photographers. His passion and skill in creating new images was infectious and inspired hundreds of Digital Shootout guests over the years. Our Best of Show image is honored with the Jim Watt Award of excellence. STAFF THOUGHTS

Jim Decker: Russ and I spent most of the day packing all the demo gear to have it ready to go back to Monterey. Tonight was the awards ceremony. The images from this week have been spectacular. When you have this many photographers all taking tons of pictures for a whole week you're going to get some really cool shots. Make sure to check out all the days coverage because there were so many great shots that didn't make it into the winners circle because the competition was that tight.

Hope to see everyone next June for the Digital Shootout 2011!

Rusty Sanoian: It is hard to believe the week is over! I have seen huge improvements in our attendees images over the course of the week. We had an incredible group of instructors this week, I have heard nothing but praises from our attendees.

We are busily packing the 15 bags of demo gear so we can ship them ahead of us to make sure everything gets home safely. All of our demo gear was used on a daily basis and it is what separates The Digital Shootout from any other photo event I have attended or participated in.

We have a couple of hours until the awards and I am looking forward to watching the videos and seeing the still images. It is my favorite part of the event!

See ya next year!

THE ED AND CHUCKIE SHOW!
Chuckie: Hey Ed, I redid our travel plans, got us a great flight off the island!

Ed: So, we were going to be flying 90% or our Cayman legs in a nice comfy Boeing 737, now....we get to fly the whole enchilada in a Twin Otter? Hmmm, I wonder where Chuckie is going to stuff his bananas?

Chuckie: Bananas?? Hell....where are you going to stuff that lizard??

Ed: Iguanas are part of the wildlife here, I'm pretty sure it's against the law to sneak 'em out. Plus, they might bite the passenger next to you.....which in this case is Chuckie..hmm m...

Chuckie: Only if I have a banana in my pocket!

Ed: Hasn't this been one of the coolest trips in ages? Those guys at Backscatter are awesome and the amount of talent in the teachers and staff are second to none. Anywhere! The hotel and diving staff included. What a great place to hang out and relax, shoot, and dive.

Chuckie: They get my vote for president. Hey, Ed I have a great idea. They should get their own island and do this 24/7. This was the best instruction on underwater photography and use of different housings I have ever attended. Put me on the list for next year. How about island shopping next week?
