Welcome to the Digital Shootout event coverage website! Uniquely awesome, the Digital Shootout is the world's best learning event for underwater photographers wanting to take their skills to the next level. Every June, underwater image-makers from around the globe gather to learn, share and get inspired over a two-week period. This year's host resort, Little Cayman Beach Resort, welcomed us back with open arms and smiling faces. Our group of 70 guests and 20 staff took over their resort, buzzing daily with chatter about scuba diving, photography gear, shooting techniques and best editing practices. Assembling the industry's top professionals to share their techniques and tips is one of the reasons the Digital Shootout is uniquely awesome. Our staff to guest ratio ensures ample small group and one-on-one time to share concepts and techniques.

Little Cayman diving is some of the very best in the Caribbean and did not disappoint. Regular encounters with Nassau grouper, Southern stingrays, Hawksbill turtles and barracuda kept the wide-angle shooters enthralled, while the macro enthusiasts went on the hunt for the jawfish, blenny or basslet with the perfect pose. Having a wide variety of marine critters to photograph in warm, clear waters makes Little Cayman an ideal location to hone one's image capturing skills. The first week of the Shootout is geared toward the photographer who wants a little extra time to dial-in their diving, get acquainted with a new camera system or just extend their holiday. The second week of the Shootout is hit-the-ocean-finning, filled with daily diving, seminars and image critiques, then repeat all week on the fast track to improved underwater imaging.

While it's called the Digital Shootout, the focus of this event is learning. Our participants range from budding beginner to veteran shutterbug, and regardless of skill level, everyone goes home having learned something new. Year after year, the organizers – Backscatter Underwater Video & Photo and Under Exposures – collect some amazing prizes to award at the event's end when even the budding beginner has gained skill and confidence to enter into our friendly competition. You'll find beautiful imagery in photos and videos that depict the wonders of the ocean in the CONTEST RESULTS section.
